The Philips GoGear is pretty hefty for a flash MP3 player, which are traditionally slim and lightweight. It’s half an inch thick and one of the heaviest models in its category. Additionally, MP3 players that are usually large and heavy make up for it with large screen size; however, the SA6045 only has an average-sized screen (2.2 inches). Although it has some good features, like FM radio, it is light on some others, like album art, line-in recording and expandable memory. It just doesn’t have enough to really make it stand out against similarly priced mp3 players.
The GoGear will support protected WMA files, making it compatible with a lot of music subscription services. Photo and video support is very basic though, only displaying JPEGs and WMVs. Another thing that hurts the GoGear is its below-average battery life, a measly 15 hours for audio.
So the final verdict is that the GoGear is a good player, but there are an awful lot of players that are better, like the Zen, the iAudio 7 and the iPod Nano.
